A taste of the Himalayas - in central London Aug 10, 2011
You could easily walk past this little, family run restaurant without even noticing it, since on the outside it looks so unassuming, and nothing much special.

But once inside, you can feel the warm ambience of a truly delightful hidden gem, run by the same Nepalese family since the early 1980s. Everyone I've taken there for lunch or dinner has loved the friendly service and the range of beautifully and freshly prepared, aromatically spiced Himalayan dishes.

My favourite is chicken kashmiri, a mild Nepalese curry with mixed fruit, almonds, raisons and cream. But what I tend to do with guests is order a mixture of different dishes, including some sides such as another favourite, fresh sag rag aloo (fresh spinach with potatoes) and the tasty Peshwari nan bread. Then all the dishes are laid out on the table to share among friends.

I love this restaurant, my only (mildly spiced!) criticism is that it's not a place for a long leisurely lunch, as it tends to close at around 2:30pm. So for a longer discussion whilst digesting the succulent digestive delights of the Himalayas, I'd suggest an evening visit. Just take your time, and feel the warm welcome of the Nepalese - in London.
A warm friendly ambience and beaut…
