The Ghan Travel Reviews

Dec 02, 2006

The Ghan is one of the most beautiful train rides a person can do and shows a huge variety of Australian climates. It travels from Adelaide, South Australia to Darwin in the Northern Territory. If you go Gold class (The BEST!) You get all meals, and a bed, showers (twinette) and all the coffee/Tea you can drink. (The single rooms ahre and shower and toilet)

The Staff are wonderful and do theor best to look after their passengers. Even the most difficult of passengers are treated with the respect they just do not deserve. The meals, whilst mostly reheated are 5 star and you will feel totally full the whole trip. There is one tour included in Alice Springs and well worth going.

Red Kangaroo is just bearable and stearage is not even worth considering. Red Kangaroo berths are much more cramped then Gold (IF this is possible) and the buffet car is just a canteen where you buy your own food. You share a shower and there is almost no room to move. Spend the money and go GOLD. Stearage is the same as the bus. Only of you have to do you go in a sit up seat. Still for backpackers who need to save, you can get good deals.

The Ghan as it arrives in Alice ...

I enjoyed your review of the Ghan. I rode it from Alice Springs to Adelaide a few years ago. I went Red Kangaroo. Luckily, I was alone in the tiny compartment. The bed was quite narrow, but very comfortable. I wouldn't want to spend several days traveling that way, but it was an experience I'm very glad I had.
