The George Inn Thruxton Reviews
Nice old pub along the road Sep 26, 2013
We saw a sign at the motorway pointing to the George Inn and we were getting a bit hungry so we decided to see what it was like. It turned out it was a small pub in an old house in the outskirts of the small village of Thruxton. The pub is very quite when we arrive with no other guest - it may be due to the fact we arrive a little before 2 in the afternoon on a Thursday so it’s too early for people coming in for the after work beer and too late for people having lunch.
We order food an ale and steak pie and classic fish and chips. The food arrives after a while and it is freshly cooked - and very hot. The fish and the pie were pretty good but the vegetables were a bit boring clearly coming out of a back from the freezer. Naturally the highlight of the pub meal was the decent ale which I unfortunately forgot to take a picture of.
The service at this place is a bit random - when we wanted to leave they had forgotten the fact we hadn’t paid our bill. So they just said good bye and expected us to leave - right until we told them we hadn’t paid. This caused a bit of confusion and they couldn’t remember what we had to drink and eat so they had to somehow find the order first. They quickly realized it was probably easier just to ask us what we had and then they managed to figure out the price and we could pay.
