The Gas Lamp
The Gas Lamp Manchester Reviews
Bolt-Hole from the City Nov 19, 2011
The Gas Lamp is a basement pub housed on a backstreet near Deansgate, in the former “Street Children’s Mission” near Deansgate. Follow the sign down a steep flight of stairs (no disabled access I’m afraid) to a white tiled, fireplace decked pair of rooms. Actually, the back room is pretty hard to find, as it looks for all the world like you’re about to enter a cleaning cupboard from the outside. Regular readers will know that a Victorian tiled basement bar with a hidden back room and no proper signs is about Sarah heaven, so won’t be surprised by the positive review. There are lots of wooden tables and friendly staff, but the real draw was the beer. In largely commercial Deansgate, this bar serves actual beer.
Prices are reasonably for specialty beer. There were leaflets for club nights, which I can imagine getting pretty sweaty.
