The Froggy Dog Avon Reviews
Jun 13, 2007
There is one place we always eat whenever we are on Hatteras Island, Avon, NC. (Kinnakeet for the purists.)
The Froggy Dog.
We visit for the food and the atmostphere and because there is a picture of a fat, fat frog on the restuarant sign and a posting that reads "All unattended children will be fed to the sharks."
So far as we can tell The Froggy Dog has had at least two different owners since we've been patrons. The second owner fattened the frog a bit and added a fantastic gift shop with all the Froggy Dog goods you could ever need. (Check out the "Horny Toad.")
The Froggy Dog got it's name back ages ago while it was a simple beachside hotdog stand. The owner noticed a lot of frogs about the hotdog stand and ta-da! You got your name!
Postings about neglected children aside, they are very family friendly and even have a playroom to keep the small ones busy while you wait for your seating or food.
The food is fantastic. They carry a great amount of seafood, fab burgers and of coarse... froggy hotdogs.
They often have live music in the bar at night. Don't expect to get a real margarita there as the entire island is liquor free. (I think the residents are actively trying to get that law changed.) They sell beer, wine and wine based cocktails.
