The Fringe Manchester Reviews
The Fringe Apr 02, 2010
The Fringe is a fantastic little pub on the other side of the Ancoats Road from the Northern Quarter, making it pretty much the edge of the known universe as far as going out in Manchester is concerned.
There is a sort of rock/ new age feel to the decoration, with green men, fairies, buffy the vampire slayer and south park all very much in evidence on the walls. The bar staff look like they would much rather be riding harleys somewhere else, but service is good.
The range of beers is excellent, with great real ale and fruit beers on tap, several kinds of bottled cider, and interesting things to drink in the fridges. There is a nice beer garden, too - this is unusual in Manchester - and although the weather might not be the most encouraging, it is often worth shivering outside to get some fresh air and admire the hedge shaped like a clutching hand.
You think I'm teasing, don't you? I'm really not. This is my current second favorite place in Manchester (after the Briton's protection) and well worth a trip.
