While traveling south on Interstate 81 near Roanoke, VA one can find any number of chain restaurants to get a quick burger. In the mood for something different? There is one mom and pop burger joint worthy of 3 mile detour. The Fried Pickle.

Burgers are the specialty. Try the Route 66 which is a beef patty covered in onions, mushrooms, and swiss. Fitting with their fun 50’s diner themed décor there is also a veggie burger called the Johnny B Good. Other menu items include fluffernutter sandwiches, fried green tomatoes, and giant chilly dogs. Service is fast but if you must wait any length of time for your food you can occupy yourself by reading all the witty blurbs covering the walls and ceiling. Stick around and have a malt for dessert.

Don’t take the bet. You’ll like the fried pickle and you’ll definitely loose the nickel. Swing in for a burger and see what I mean.

Edited to add the diner is also an internet Hot Spot.
