The Franklin Hotel New York City Reviews
Outstanding Little Gem on the Upper East Side Jun 07, 2016
This hotel was a delightful find! I was in the city for appointments at Mt. Sinai Hospital and decided to try to include a little time to enjoy this lovely area.
I called ahead and requested a room in the quietest part of the hotel and explained my situation. I was told that room requests are based on availability (fair enough) and that they would do their best to accommodate me.
I got into the city at noon and was prepared to wait until the room was ready.
Check in was a breeze and they were so warm and friendly. Not only was the room ready but they gave me an upgrade! The wonderful bellman showed me to a lovely room at the end of the hall. (room 66),
The room faced a residential building and its playground. This was indeed the quietest part of the hotel. I still heard the construction next door but it wasn't a problem.
The room was well appointed, the bathroom small but functional, the bed and pillows very comfortable.
The hotel only has 1 small old school elevator but it wasn't busy and it was fast. There is a small sitting room with a couch, chair and a table with a set of chairs. Cozy. The breakfast room is also small with about 5 small tables. I didn't have breakfast there but did take butter and jam for the loaf of bread I bought at Eric Kaiser's amazing french bakery 1/2 block away. ( do not miss this...especially their ginger dark chocolate cookies!)
The hotel has a nice wine and cheese hour daily between 5 and 6pm. It is simple and thoughtful. A french white and red, cheese, crackers, peanuts, dried apricots and cranberries. Perfect to snack on while you decide where to dine.
Check out was a breeze. This will be my "go to" hotel while in the UES
There were only 2 things that I could think of that could would improve this wonderful place. 1) Please improve the internet. While I appreciate that it was free I couldn't access it in my room. 2) Please consider adding a small refrigerator in the rooms.
