The Fox Finchingfield Reviews
The Fox Oct 30, 2010
The Fox is a pub in Finchingfield. It’s OK.
Finchingfield is a spectacularly pretty village in Essex, and the Fox is the
main pub. It is therefore a little strange that it feels so much like a chain
pub, with so little atmosphere. There is fake book wallpaper and, to quote an
old guy at the bar “the music’s like a blinking Tesco!” (for non-Brits, Tesco is
a large chain of particularly soulless supermarkets that play dire, middle of
the road music to lull you into buying more stuff) . The food is quite nice,
for all that. It’s just that you are eating it listening to – and I am not
joking – an Italian opera version of bed shaped by Keane.
If you are driving around North Essex, there are certainly worse places to eat.
The staff are nice, and the food was hot and fresh. But it is quite dear for
what it is, and the atmosphere lets it down a bit.
