The Folkston Funnel Reviews
Train Watching at the Folkston Funnel Mar 25, 2011
The Folkston Funnel is the popular name for a train watching platform located in Folkston, Georgia. For railfans, the spot is one of the busiest railway lines in the Southeastern states. Two CSX main lines converge into one just north of Folkston and then lead into Florida. The main line hosts numerous CSX freight trains and six Amtrak passenger trains (including the Auto-Train) per day.
The Folkston Chamber of Commerce encourages train watchers to stop and stay a while. They have erected a covered viewing platform with chairs and a railroad radio scanner to alert of approaching action.
You don't have to wait very long to see a train. I saw five CSX freight trains pass in the 75 minutes I was here.
If you enjoy trains, definitely make a stop when traveling along I-95!
