The Flying Scotsman Perth Reviews
The Flying Scotsman Dec 06, 2009
The Scotsman is a pretty laid back British style pub and bistro that pulls a pretty big crowd on weekends. It's located on Beaufort Street in Mt Lawley a little south of the Walcott Street crossroad, and across the road from Planet Video and Books.
There is a pretty wide range of good quality beers on tap (local and international), a good wine list (by the glass) and simple, good quality food available at a good price (On Sundays they do a $10 Pizza and Pint deal! And their Pizzas are all hand made and amazingly droolworthy).
Food ranges from about $5-15 for Entrees and $15-35 for Mains.
Live bands, a DJ and karaoke nights pretty much characterise the evenings and weekends, and generally feature local acts. If you do intend to go on a Sunday, try to get there early as the afternoon can get crowded and a tad stuffy.
The Scotsman is also a pretty good place to act as a 'base' if you like for looking around the Beaufort Street Cultural Area.. Both Planet Video and Planet Books across the road are open late every night (until 11pm or midnight on weekends), so you can break up the drinking/eating a little bit if you are that way inclined! There is also a 24hr Chemist and a late night Supermarket - Fresh Provisions - on the same block.
This place is very much a local gem - it's one of those lovely places that still hasn't gotten so pretentious that you feel like you need to wear your nice jeans there (but it's not a big deal if you do). You're best off coming here with a group of friends.
