The Flying Coconut Kbal Spien Reviews
Food To Die For!!! Oct 18, 2010
My first trip to Cambodia and the Angkor temples should have been highlighted by the beautiful temples and amazing history, but I have to admit that it was my lunch at The Flying Coconut that still stands out in my mind as one of the greatest things I have ever eaten on vacation!
Maybe it was after the long walk up the mountain and back to visit Kbal Spean, but this food hit the spot and made me dream about it ever since. My driver told me to meet him there after coming down from the temple/area and he picked the right spot. It may be a lot like the other stands, but their food was so good.
I had the stir fried pineapple cashew chicken with rice and my favorite travel drink in SE Asia, Mirinda and just about fell over with my first bite. This stall is so far out there in the Angkor temple area, but so good. I think the dish costs a total of maybe $1.50 with a nice heaping helping of rice to go along with it.
My second trip back I made sure we went back there for the food (and the temples as well) and was just as blown away by the meal. We also ordered a coconut for drink and could not believe how big and full the coconut was they gave us. It was like a bowling ball filled with what seemed like a litre or two of juice.
I recommended this spot to some travelers when in Vietnam and after they went to Cambodia they emailed me to let me know just how good the food was as well. It may be just a small stand in the middle of Cambodia, but of all the places I have visited and all the different foods I have tried as I traveled, the Flying Coconut is in my Top Three for best food anywhere!!!
