Unique Dining Experience in Abu Dhabi Mar 04, 2009
Growing up in New England, seafood is a way of life. However, I have never experienced a seafood restaurant quite like the Fish Market located on the grounds of the Intercontinental Hotel's marina. Shaped like a Thai farmer's straw hat, this sea-fare restaurant has a, you guessed it, Thai flare. The concept is simple: take fish from a local fisherman's boat, stick in on ice, and let the diner select and dictate the preparation of whatever they choose. The line begins with shellfish - mussels, clams, lobsters, prawns, crab, etc... Your waiter (waitress) carries a supermarket basket and places your selection into it. They memorize your preparation preference (steamed, sautéed, baked or grilled) and your choice of many Thai sauces and accompaniments available. You then progress down the line to the fish, an on to the fresh produce. All is made to order by the Thai chefs located behind glass in the center of the "hat". The last things to choose are your sides and off goes your basket. All of the food is brought back to your table in sizzling, cast iron plates and served family style. I went twice in one week and will probably want to go here first on my next trip to Abu Dhabi. Highly recommended!!
