The Fish House
The Fish House Reviews
Dec 05, 2007
I have some friends from Venezuela who visit often, though not as often as I'd like, and as soon as their plane lands our first stop is The Fish House. It is located on South West 8th Street, just a hop off the Turnpike (if you’re local: it’s where the Cami’s used to be).
We proceed to gorge on the fresh oysters, raw of course, with a lot of lemon and just enough salt (which I was recently informed is the only way to eat them!) I was disappointed that they stopped carrying the Key West Lager Ale, a favorite of mine since I'd discovered it, but beer is beer after all and with the salty flavor of the oysters, there is nothing better than an icy cold beer to chase them down. We are regulars and know the menu by heart and proceeded to order our favorite, a Lobster bake with a whole lobster and an assortment of other sea creatures steamed to perfection, which is always enough to share, especially after downing a dozen oysters on the half shell each. We end it by sharing Flans, the local dessert of sweet custard covered in caramel. It's done differently by different cultures but the Flan de leche (Milk Custard) they serve there is sepectacular to say the least. Always a wonderful gastronomic time.
