Nice place to spend time in Aug 25, 2012
The Field Museum of Natural History is a natural history museum, located on Museum Campus, and across the street from Soldier Field.

I mainly came here for the Genghis Khan exhibition, but it is only temporary, and worth going to, if you are in town. There is a lot of other exhibitions to see, which cannot be covered within a day. So my suggestion is to pick 2, and stick to them. If you plan to spend the whole day, you can probably see more.

I was only able to see the Egyptian collection and the exhibition on Africa. The Egyptian artifacts are basically what you expect to see, like tombs, mummies, and other artifacts. The entrance to this section, is through a replica of a temple. Part of it on the first floor, then the rest at the bottom floor.

But the Africa exhibition is definitely make the visit worth it, as it gets into the way of life on the continent, plus the wildlife in the safari that Africa is well known for. Then came the dark and tragic part, which was on slavery. It started with a dark tunnel, then got into the horrors of slavery in the New World. After that, an exhibition on life of African-Americans, and their culture in the US.

This place can keep people entertained for a whole day, and a nice place to spend a day when the weather outside is not so nice. And it can be a fun place to take the kids or visiting relatives to, as well as learning about the different aspects of the world.

Overall, a museum that is worth checking out.

Nice museum for knowledge enhancement Aug 14, 2011
The Field Museum of Natural History is located in Museum Complex. This musuem hall has many specimens we cant see together any where. I liked the Natual history and What is an animal sections the most. Especially the north american birds collection.

This place has some special exhibit halls and seperate entrance tickets have to be bought for the same. When I was here Horse, Whale and Underground experience were the special exhibits.

I have spent around 5 hours here and not enough to see all. Many nations historical exhibits are here too. I have taken many pictures and attached here for more visual experience. Please be prepared to be here for a full day to see all the exhibits.

Definitely Stop by Apr 27, 2011
You can't go to Chicago and miss the Field Museum. It is a definite must see. I have done research in the back labs on animal bones as an intern and the experience is incredible. If you are interested in seeing what the lab processes are like, definitely contact the museum to set up a tour.

Dinosaurs , Meteorites , Birds , Mammals , Evolution , Plants ...... set over 3 floors , this is a great musuem and I could have spent twice as long there. A big T-rex as soon as you go in , the Ancient Americas exhibits were the highlights for me.

good educational fun Jan 18, 2009
The field museum is a great place to spend about half a day, espicially if you are inclined to see something a little more educational. I have been their twice now, about 7 years apart and both have been good times.

The museum has its standard set of stuff, and then special exhibits. The first time I went they had aspecial exhibit on Egypt, so you can see your mummy's and excess amounts of gold. The second visit had an exhibit on pirates, which was sort of interesting, but hey booty is booty.

The stuff they always have are hit and miss. They have an exhibit of stuffed birds and animals which is kind of creepy. More interesting is the bones of dinosaurs, and the models of ancient creatures!

Great Museum for Natural Histoy May 23, 2008
One of the premier natural history museums in the world, The Field Museum of Chicago never disappoints. The major attraction right now is, of course, "Sue" the most complete T. rex specimen in the world. The museum is also home to several permanent displays (Ancient Egypt, Native Americans, gems and minerals), but my personal favorite is the rotating exhibits. For example, on my last visit I saw "Mythical Beasts" which was a look at how different cultures interpret different mythical creatures like unicorns, yeti, and dragons. These exhibits are always extremely thorough and generally have spared no expense (Note: which means most require an additional entrance fee on top of the museum admission). The staff is always accommodating and extremely knowledgeable (definitely take advantage of this!). Various free guided tours are available daily (see posted info in the lobby area). Also, check out the website for info on special events like evening tours and exhibit openings.

Field Museum in Chicago May 24, 2008
This a great place to visit during your stay in Chicago, IL. The pricing is free for military and veterans I am sure of. I recommend checking their web site for more info on the pricing. The time frame I went was last year prior to coming to Africa for this past year. However it was great though, their theme was all about Africa and it's history as well as African Americans travels to America. I saw plenty of history on slavery, religion, and it's background. You will see plenty of photos on my page as well.

They offered many attractions through out the museum, and really huge. You could see everything an about two hours. Recommend this spot to anyone and locals. Any questions please ask, God Bless ;)

A fantastic collection of Natural Science exhibits from the permanent ones to the special exhibitions. The Field, as it is commonly referred to, is one of my favorite places to visit in Chicago. I've been several times already and could visit again and again and see things that I have missed on previous visits.
