Great hotel - just a little way out of town Mar 28, 2011
Banff is a lively small town with a decent choice of pubs and restaurants. The Banff Springs is a luxury huge hotel whose service level is top tier.

A mile to walk to town (even in minus 25C) is a small inconvenience but actually a good way to walk off the Guiness!

Never actually stayed here, but I worked for a babysitting company and babysat here often - it is an exceptional hotel with an amazing view of Banff, I'm sure it's fairly pricey though!

We enjoyed our short stay the most in this hotel. it's not only the service and the staff friendly attitude, also the hotel location, the view from your room window, the availability of all amenities either on site or nearby, having the downtown in a walking distance including all the museums.

while Banff Gandola and hot springs are reachable in 4 minutes by car..

Fairmont Springs Resort, Banff, Alberta Oct 08, 2009
If you have the cash, this is definitely the best option in the entire area. Well worth the $400 or so dollars a night.

The hotel is immense, as are the hotel grounds. It's reminiscent of some far away castle, nestled among giant mountains and fairytale forests.

As I said, the hotel is expensive, but very worth the price. The room, bed, views, everything, were excellent...except one thing. The service. I'm not sure if it was only the attitude of the lady who checked us into the hotel, or if the smug better-then-thou-art attitude is dispersed evenly among all of the staff and is reserved for the "commoner". Regardless, I really liked the place and would stay there again.

There are some hot springs just a few minutes from the hotel, and they're fabulous. The cost was under $10CAD, and the sitting pools were very hot and large enough to prevent crowding. It was a surreal experience to be sitting outside in shorts, with a white-out blizzard hard at work covering everything with a thick blanket of heavy snow. It was the first time I'd ever had snow on my head and ice hanging from my hair. Awesome!

The hotel and hot springs are not far from Lake Louise, which is a pristine body of water surrounded by the high granite walls of the Canadian Rockies. Sadly, because of the blizzard, we were unable to make it there. However, I have been told by several people that the lake is an absolute MUST. I've seen many pictures and it looks well worth a visit, but perhaps next time I'll go during the warmer months :)

There is access to the top of one of the mountains via a 10-15 minute gondola ride, and it's not far from the hotel. A short drive up the road, if I remember correctly. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of it or exactly how to get there, but it's a well known retreat and shouldn't be hard to find. The views from the top are breathtaking...and humbling. (See the photos I've posted).

The Fairmont Banff Springs is huge grey stone chateau-style building. The Fairmont was one of the original hotels built by the railroad to attract tourists to the train. I'd seen pictures but was still impressed with the size of the place. It's located a bit out of town itself along the Bow River and just above the Bow River falls. We used the FPC checkin and found out we had been upgraded to a huge King Suite in the conference center wing. The view was stunning, over across to the main building with Tunnel Hill behind it. The hotel has a bit of everything, from tennis to a bowling alley. There are several restaurants here, a German pub & restaurant, fine dining, Italian and Japanese. There is also a minimart where you can buy usual supplies.
