The Externstein Rocks (or Externsteine) - Detmold - TravBuddy

The first time I went her was as a field trip in middle school. The Extern Rocks are those huge rocks set up in a constellation, and you can climb on those tiny rope ladders on top of them and around them. On the highest point of the place is a chapel. I have to admit little 12-year-old me was pretty much knocked of her socks by the spirituality of the place, both pagan and Christian. I suppose I did have some kind of an experience climbing those steep rocks and immersing myself in a history that's thousands and thousands of years old! I have always tried to imagine what sort of people it was that lived back when this thing was being actively used!
