The Residenz was a Benedictine monastery that that was founded in 750 but was destroyed in the Thirty Years War (1618 to 1648), the church and Residence were rebuilt starting in 1652 and was used as the Residence of the Duke Abbots of Kempten until 1803. The baroque style building which also has double courtyards including the Antechamber, Audience Room, Living Room and Bedroom in the late Regency style, whilst the Throne Hall has Rococo decoration which is unique in this part of the country. The guided tour (in German) is every 45 minutes.
