A capital meal Dec 23, 2013
Your basic home town diner, the County Seat was about what you’d expect. Mom told me the joint was usually packed during the lunch hour (they aren’t open for dinner), though at 9:30AM there was only one other table being used in the dining area. Of course the counter area was almost full occupancy, populated by feisty blue collar types downing coffee and swapping stories. Service was a bit surly, though I attributed that to the fact we weren’t regulars and had to be vetted, lol. There was clearly an established base of returning customers, so the cold shoulder must have been reserved for suspicious newcomers.

I ordered a Swiss cheese and mushroom omelet, mom scored scrambled eggs and bacon. Both servings were nice size for breakfast portions and quite good – not gourmet, but certainly above average. The coffee was particularly good, though I had to exercise patience waiting for it to be refilled. After we were done I walked the check to the counter and whipped out a credit card, drawing an immediate comment of “cash or check”. Everything was reasonably priced, so no issue dipping into my wallet for some greenbacks.
