Two reasons to visit! Sep 03, 2010
The Columba Centre in Fionnphort, the port on Mull for the island of Iona, would be hard to miss. If you go a little farther you will come to cars and coaches parked while their inhabitants go on the passenger ferry to Iona. There is a charge for parking here but at the centre there is no charge - that's the first reason to go!

The second is that it is very informative and worth seeing. As its name suggests it is about St Columba, a man of high descent in Ireland who founded a settlement in Iona in 563 CE, which most believe to be the beginning of Christianity in Scotland (there is some doubt surrounding St Ninian but I am not into these things.)

The website shows photos of some of the exhibits.

True - and I often have that much. Incidentally, should you ever go, remember that the distilleries are not the cheapest place to buy whisky - though you do get a free glass if you take a tour. For bottles of malt whisky you are better off going to a supermarket!

This site has the impertinence to think I can't spell whisky!! Whisky is Scottish; whiskey is Irish.

Yes - but I cannot drink much because of heart problems.
