Popular volunteer and tourist spot Aug 04, 2011
The Coffee Shop is by far the most popular spot for foreigners in Moshi. With a wide choice of meals, inexpensive prices and a very comfortable setting it is the tourist landmark. In addition to the indoor seating, there is a large, private, outdoor courtyard in back. Located across from the police station, and with a low profile but effective security guard in front, the shop does a good job filtering out street hustlers and potential disturbances. It is one of perhaps 3 - 4 places in town where a person can feel safe openly working with a laptop. There are several power outlets near tables which are frequently used by volunteers working on computers. The menu has a wide selection of breakfast and lunch items with sandwiches, pasta, milkshakes, cakes, espresso beverages (not the best espresso in town but half the price of other places). Fruit juices, ice cream and juices are available. the service is friendly, all speak excellent English but the speed of service in uneven. The coffee shop is run by a local church and a portion of the proceeds go to their community projects.
