One of the first things I heard when I came to Japan was how horrible climbing Fuji was supposed to be. In fact, there is a saying in Japan that goes along the lines of "A wise man climbs fuji once, a fool climbs it twice". I was tempted to relinquish my wise man status and not climb it at all. It is crazy to climb Mt. Fuji for the first time and then you might think that you will never love climbing mountains! Well, I should start with a nice compliment about Mt. Fuji...yeah.
We took a night express bus from Tokyo to get to the half of the mountain… My first time for climbing mountain was Mt. Fuji! |

It took us about 8 hours total climbing time to the summit and 4 hours to get down. We rested from 8 p.m.-2 a.m. at the Fuji-san Hotel at 3,200 meters elevation near gates 7-8. At first, this view of that light in the cabin was my salvation, a sign of hope, which pushed me to climb a few more steps before stopping for a rest. However, after I was exhausted, the light in the sky was taunting me. No matter how many steps I climbed, those stations still seemed the same size.
