The only budget option is also a great option Jul 28, 2015
Located near the West End Market, the Cleveland Hostel is the only hostel in the city of Cleveland. But is it worth staying at?

Not hard to get to, as it is about a short walk from the RTA Station, at the Ohio City stop on the Red Line. Also, there is parking across the street from it, but I don’t know if it’s included or you have to pay each time.

Looking at the place, it would appear like this place would be rundown and cramped. But this place surprised me in more ways than one. Checking in, you will be given a key card, which is needed to enter the hostel itself, and access to the dorm area, and of course, the room itself.

The dorm rooms are surprisingly not cramped at all. The beds are comfortable, and there are electric outlets between the set of bunk beds. And there is air-conditioning in the room, to keep it cool during the summer.

If there is one problem with this place, it is the bathroom and shower. There are 2 or 3 bathrooms per floor, and only room for 1 person. That could be a problem if the hostel is filled up. Luckily when I was there, it was not the case. The bathrooms themselves, are clean and nice. And having it all to yourself, is definitely a huge bonus, giving you privacy. That is, once you get into one, and not having to wait for one.

There is a kitchen and a common room, which are okay. Plus laundry, as there is only 1 washing machine and dryer per floor, I believe. Make sure you get change ahead of time, as there is no change machine there. But detergent is included, as there are some already there in the laundry room.

The staff are nice and helpful with any questions you may have. But keep in mind, reception is not 24 hours. I think they close at 10 PM, so try to check in beforehand.

There is no breakfast provided. But there are some fast food restaurants nearby, some at a small shopping center across the street and the West End Market.

After spending 2 nights at this hostel, I would say, this was a great hostel to stay at, much to my surprise. Probably one of the best that I stayed at, and the best of this trip. And at such cheap prices and the only budget option in Cleveland, you would definitely be getting your money’s worth.
