The Citadel in cairo Dec 22, 2009
One of Cairo's most popular tourist attractions is the Citadel which houses a number of museums, ancient mosques and other sites, located on a spur of limestone that had been detached from its parent Moqattam Hills by quarrying.

The Citadel is one of the world's greatest monuments to medieval warfare, as well as a highly visible landmark on Cairo's eastern skyline. Particularly when viewed from the back side (from the north), the Citadel reveals a very medieval character........................

Everyone travels to the country of Egypt, visiting Cairo with the pyramids in mind. And while the pyramids are some wondrous pieces of architecture from ancient history, there is more to Cairo than that. Cairo is home to both Coptic and Islamic architecture and history. While in Cairo, make sure you take a tour of the Coptic Cairo (visiting it's Christian sites) as well as Islamic Cairo, where you can visit the Citadel and many of Cairo's other beautiful and unique mosques.

The Citadel is so much to explore, and it offers an amazing look inside the world of Islam.
