Hats a flying Mar 16, 2008
It’s probably more worthwhile if you go in the summer/when there is better weather than when I went. I also didn’t stay the whole time because it was getting to be long and cold. However, when it’s cold and raining there ARE less people so it’s easier to get a better spot. Be prepared to come early, and stay long. You should do it at least once though, it’s pretty cool! There was also a very humorous episode when we went. Two of the guards hats blew off in the ceremony, and one of the other guards had to ceremoniously go pick up the hats and put them back on their heads. So he marches over and gets the hat that blew way far away, puts it on the first guy’s head, and he thinks it doesn’t fit properly, so he takes it off and puts it on the other guy…it’s WAAAY too big, everyone is laughing as he takes the hat at puts it back on the first guy. Then the second hat, which had been off the longest, catching all the rain, he pours out the water, sticks it on the second guy’s head, and as he walks away pushes the hat of another guard down on his head. I have some video in my blog too if you care to see it. It was pretty funny. You never know what you’ll get to see at a changing of the guard!
