I took the train from Vigo to Santiago (only 9Euro) and the train was clean, smooth, and convenient. Stayed at Hotel Aires Nunes which was literally around the corner from the cathedral. It takes your breath away when you see it, especially on a clear, sunny day as I did. Enjoy walking around and looking at all the shops, listening to music on the corners, and eating at one of many restaurants (cafes). You won't lack for anything to do. Alameda park is a must too. Very beautiful!

The Cathedral in Santiago de Compostella Aug 01, 2009
It had been a dream for me to visit this place for years and I had finally made it. This year’s road trip made it possible for me and I was really happy to be there.

Having been to Cordoba on the same trip gave me also the possibility to tie the connection between these two cities. In 997 the early church today have become the Cathedral was reduced to ashes by Al-Mansur Ibn Abi Aamir (938-1002), army commander of the caliph of Córdoba, Spain. The gates and the bells, was then carried by Christian captives to Córdoba, were added to the Aljama Mosque.

When Córdoba was taken by king Ferdinand III of Castile in 1236, these same gates and bells were then transported by Muslim captives to Toledo, to be inserted in the cathedral Santa Maria. No matter how rough this story sounds I find it an amazing connection between two cities.

The Cathedral was impressive; even in the light rain that is a huge part of Galicia as well.
