-there has been a hotel at this location since the 14th
century and stands on the site of a cistercian abbey. In
its current form, the hotel was a coaching inn and used to
consist of two famous hostelries, the castle and the 15th
century king s head. The existing castle hotel was by far
the larger and at the turn of the 19th century had an
attractive face-lift of local granite and ruabon brick and
is now one of conwy s most photographed buildings. The
