The Capital-Inn (and yes you NEED the hyphen) is a pretty nondescript hostel/hotel on the outskirts of downtown Reykjavik. Overall it is a pretty good value depending on how you book it. My wife and I originally booked the 10 person dorm for the first half of our visit and this was perfectly fine, cheap, and relatively nice. The staff keep the place pretty clean and will do anything for you. One man even called the soccer stadium to confirm the time of the match later that evening. However for the second half of our week stay we upgraded to a private shared bedroom which allowed us to have a little more privacy that married couples need. But even this was modestly priced compared to some of the hotels downtown. There were only two issues that we had with this hostel. First the mattresses and beds in general left much to be desired for. Yes, in a hostel you sometimes get what you pay for but these were simple inch wide pieces of foam. The private room's mattress was better but still was somewhat lacking. The other chief complaint was the location. In all the materials on TravBuddy or HostelWorld it says that everything is close via car and while that is true, good luck parking anywhere downtown. Plus if you don't want to spend the large amount of money to rent a car it leaves you somewhat stranded between Reykjavik and Hafnarfjordur. The best option we found was taking the bus, but even the closest bus stop was still twenty minutes away. I know I may be splitting hairs but it was just a pain to not stay downtown because most of the attractions and good restaurants were there. However if you don't mind walking 15 minutes, waiting 15-20 minutes for a bus, and then taking a 15 minute drive into town then this place isn't a bad option. You can certainly do much worse.
