The Cape Cod Light Jun 06, 2008
Eight working lighthouses guide ships to safety through the treacherous shoals around Cape Cod. Mile for mile, the cape has one of the largest concentrations of working lighthouses in the world.

The Cape Cod Highland Light is the highest and oldest on the cape - built in 1798. For transatlantic mariners, the light was the first seen on voyages from Europe. The present brick lighthouse and keeper's house were built in 1857.

Known as the Cape Cod Light, it is perched on a 120-foot-high cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. From mid-May to mid-October the lighthouse is open for tours. Admission is $4. Children have to measure a height of 51 inches to be allowed to climb the tower. Views from the observation deck are spectacular.
