The Camargue Regional Park
The Camargue Regional Park Reviews
Wild camping on the beach Apr 14, 2011
This place wasn’t on our road trip plan but after hearing about it from other travelers we had to check it out. We were told that this was the last place in Europe where you can camp on the beach for free. Best part was having a campfire and hardly any people around.
After driving for about half an hour through salt fields, seeing flamingoes in the far which looked more like a mirage then a reality we finally got to the end of the road and of course – the famous wild beach. Although there were quite few caravans on the beach stretch, once we found our spot for pitching the tents, it felt as if we were the only people on the planet! And if you are up for a hike you can keep on walking on the beach through miles and miles of sand dunes, which makes you feel like you are in the middle of the desert and not south of France.
Make sure you bring firewood with you as there isn’t much you can find on the beach. And it can get very windy so if you don’t want to chase your tents on the beach – secure it properly!!!
We had the best time dancing and singing by the fire, enjoying delicious barbequed food and of course sipping the best French wine. There are no facilities which is great as you get to camp as you should – no electricity, no lights, just you, sea, sand, stars and friends.
Definitely going back there some day soon :)
