The Butcher's Hook London Reviews
Nice little gastropub Jun 16, 2008
Went to this place on a Sunday evening with some friends. This place is sort of an english pub, modernized, and this is evident in the food selection.
We were hungry, but decided to split a bunch of appetizers so we could all try a couple things. Between the four of us we had the Butcher's Platter (an assortment of cheese, meats, veggies, etc), pint of prawns, veal carppacio, lamb kidneys on toast, a kind of spanish black pudding, and whitebait, as well as some chips and the Grand Cru cider. When we ordered, our waiter commented, "that's a good start" but by the end of all of that we were pretty well stuffed.
Food was pretty good, and it was nice to nibble on a bit of everything; my friend who has been before said that the entrees were good as well, but that our app selections were even better. I didn't care for the whitebait but that might just be me. The carpaccio and the chips were wonderful!
Prices were decent. Our bill ran to £65 between the four of us, with a few pints. Entrees were in the £10-15 range. That's about the best you're going to do for this type of place.
Atmosphere was really nice. They had the sort of traditional pub setting, only a little tweaked to make it more classy. Still had the game on, however, which was nice for the boys. :)
