Little History about Botanical Garden:
In year 1922 Latvian University In the spring establishes the first botanical gardens in Latvia.Riga City Council for this purpose award an incomplete acres of land in gardening. In year 1923 Botanical Garden is open for school tours, you can see(then) 1,500 species of plants! In year 1928 tropical, sub-tropical plants and succulents collection is initiated deployment of plant construction. The complex has a plant house, separate compartments for orchids, tropical aquatic plants, succulents, as well as propagation and test house.
During years of wars, any work in Botanical Garden is temporary closed! In year 1949,everything is open for work and visits!
Nowadays you can also (in spring) see Tropical Butterfly House. In my opinion, now Botanical Garden isn't as great as it use to be,but times that i've visited there isn't wasted.Best time to visit it is in May,July(hottest summer month in Latvia). There is colorful selection of rhododendrons, interesting(some weird) sculptures. Also you can visit Palm house,Tropical house. And just sit on the benches and enjoy Spring or hot Summer day!Location to the Garden, from center is whit bus few stops and you are here.Best i think is to ask direction or even better come whit a local ;)!
Entrance fee isn't expensive.
