Quiet waterfront dining Jul 05, 2012
While in the 1000 Islands region my friend and I wanted to have a waterfront dining experience without the crowds of tourists. Nearby Clayton & Alexandria Bay both were full of crowds and the latter lacked any kind of charm. The bartender at our hotel told us that the best town to eat in was Sackets Harbor. After missing the "restaurant district" the first time, we came across the tiny, but pretty restaurant-filled Main Street. There were many restaurants to choose from, but we chose the Boathouse as the menu looked tasty and the waterside dining looked nice. The best part was they put us on a patio that was a little sheltered so we got the views, without the bugs. The seafood was very tasty although the service was VERY slow. We thought they forgot about us on numerous occasions. It seemed the real outdoor tables got all the attention. Afterwards the War of 1812 battlefield/city park overlooking Lake Ontario makes a nice stroll.
