The Blue Mountain guest house Montagu Reviews
Like staying in someones private home.. Feb 25, 2012
We had booked an ensuite room at this place for 3 nights. When we came there the price we had to pay was different from the price listed on a sign in the street, but the woman at reception was completely clueless. When we came she asked us how much we should pay...I just had to tell her that we didn't know as we bookedmonths in advance and paid 10% online. Eventually after much back and forth she figured out a sum we should pay.
The room was Ok,nothing special, no atmosphere. There was a thin glassdoor from the room leading straight to the street, so anyone could have broken that and stolen our stuff if they wished.
The whole house could need some renovation as it is very musty and old, feels like a turn-of-the-century guesthouse.
Some people in Montague gave us a nasty look when we said were we stayed, as they claim it is a known brothel in the area. We didn't see any signs of tha, but the walls were quite thin and there was a lot of noise on some nights.
The most annoying thing is that there seems to be many locals that live permanently here, whole families. So their children are running around all day, occupying all the communal areas, kitchen and swimming pool.
We felt like we were staying privately, and that we were getting in the way of these families social interactions just by beeing present.
The garden with the swimming pool is quite beautiful with the scenic mountain views in the back, unfortunately too many kids running around.
I think you can find a better place in Montague , maybe at a slightly higher price, but will still be worth it.
