I like this place. Indeed, if I had had more time, I may well have stayed here a few weeks and done a bit of work. It's yer standard hostel for young folk - six to a room, nice beds (it is new - give it 6 months) and a very nice atmosphere. It helps that they close the bar at 10pm and the late night drinkers need to go elsewhere.
It is 50 Quetzales a night (£3.30), but that includes breakfast or sandwiches if you're on the early morning trip to the volcano. The people working there were very friendly and the food is good as the Guatemalans working in the kitchen no what they are doing. If you are going the dorm route, try and get one on the top floor. The views from up there are brilliant and it is a little quieter than the ones below. The place is clean, new, vibrant and laid back. Enjoy. Another good recommendation is the Tipico breakfast at the Black Cat. It is a buffet on a plate. It includes cheese, beans, avocado, bread, eggs, and tomatoes. While the Black Cat hostel had great food, we also ate on the street some. Had some great tostados made by a lady… Fours Days in Antigua |

Met interesting Guatemalan at the afterparty who is studying Neuroscience at Stanford. Graham and Toby… Black Cat Hostel, Antigua |

The four of us got along well, and tried to get beds at the Black Cat (Gato Negro...I'm learning I'm learning!) hostel. It was full, so we headed up the street, and the two girls (Dane and Costa Rican) shared a room at the next place, but the Isralie and I didn't feel that… Guac in Guat |

Having arrived safely in Antigua, checking in to the Black Cat Hostel and wondering around town for the rest of the afternoon, an early night was needed on day one. We woke to an included breakfast that could keep you going until almost dinner! Breakfast burrito is all I'll say... except… Antigua and the Pacaya Volcano |

Afterwards i just thought of all the smiling kids and focused on the good intentions and had another beer in the park with some of my new found family because we managed to loose the others as our hunger diverted a select few off path and into macdonlds. The rest of the day was spent chilling out with the crew at the black cat
