The Best Castle Hotels in Europe Reviews

May 05, 2007
How many of us are excited by castles? If my guess is right, more than half. Presently there are over 20,000 members here and even if only 10% are interested in castles that still makes for a lot of people. So even though the data I am presenting is from my local newspaper and says it was originally from the Chicago Tribune, I feel it is information that should be shared

The listing is the top ten castle hotels in Europe and includes the average nightly rates. The data is based on traveler popularity and TripAdvisor.com editors. If you have ever thought about staying in a castle hotel, check out this information, do your own research and

1. Ashford Castle, Cong, Ireland. ($362)
2. Thornbury Castle, Thornbury, England ($409)
3. Chateau de Bagnols, Lyon, France ($663)
4. Inverlochy Castle, Ft. William, Scotland ($932)
5. Castle Hotel Auf Schoenburg, Oberwesel, Germany ($240)
6. Parador de Cardona, Cardona, Spain ($166)
7. Swinton Park, Masham, North Yorkshire, England ($463)
8. Castle Stuart, Inverness, Scotland ($475)
9. Castelletto de Montebenichi, Arezzo, Italy ($242)
10. Castle ten Berghe, Brugge, Belgium ($177)

I cannot tell you either how old this data is or that the rates are really U.S. dollars. That is for you to see when you do your own research. I put the Cost above at $0, because it is just information. If you decide to stay at one of these hotels you may find it average or more. But I hope this gives you clues as to where to stay, hostel or castle.

For a much much cheaper option, there is the youth hostel Burg-Stahlek in Bacharach, Germany. While the interior has been completely modernized, the exterior shell of the castle is enough to feel like you're in a fairytale. At 17 Euro a night, I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of authenticity.
There are several other similar options out there, although I can't vouch for them personally-- a decent list can be found here: http://www.guideforeurope.com/castlehostels.html
