The Belize Zoo
The Belize Zoo Reviews
Feb 13, 2008
The Belize Zoo isn't exactly what comes to mind when you think of the zoos that you've been to as a kid. All the animals that live there were previously owned as housepets (ILLEGAL), or were found injured in the wild. Don't ask me why someone would think it's a good idea to own a jaguar as house pet. My poodle is wild enough, thanks.
That being said, it can be a bit depressing. The zoo does make a nice home for these guys though. Among the critters are harpy eagles, owls, tapirs, parrots, storks, kinkajous (take that Paris Hilton!), pumas, peccaries, jaguars, jaguarundis, snakes, turtles, crocodiles, toucans, and wild hogs. It costs USD 8 and you can do the entire place in an hour if you're pressed for time.
You'll also enjoy the handpainted signs with rhymes about the animals. Don't get all "city slicker" on them and trash talk them because the grammar isn't A1. They're kistchy!
