The Huascaran National Park was established on July 10, 1975, with an area of 340,000 ha and a length of 158 km, comprising of the provinces of Recuay, Huaraz, Carhuaz, Yungay, Huaylas, Pomabamba, Mariscal Luzuriaga, Huari, Corongo, Sihuas and Bolognesi. Has been declared a biosphere reserve and natural heritage site by UNESCO.
Here you can find two seasons: a) the dry season from April to September, accentuating the months from June to August, and b) the rainy season from October to May, with the maximum rainfall between January and March
The flora is abundant, here you can find Puya Raimondi, also known as Queen of the Andes.
In the fauna, we can see the gray deer, the Andean deer, the spectacled bear, the vicuna, puma, fox, viscacha, weasel, bobcat, the muca, Anaz fox, etc. There are also plenty of birds, predominantly ducks, coots and hummingbirds.
