Miami Beach, Florida
The Beach Miami Beach Reviews
Miami Beach is really a nice...BEACH!! Jun 28, 2011
There are many beach destinations where people go to party and soak in the sun along with their beer and other intoxicants. They are all over the world and too numerous to mention. There are some people who go to these locations and are so concerned with the party and night life that they never actually see the beach itself, just the rooftop pool or the night clubs or the beach at night. Well if you plan to travel to Miami Beach, Florida, know this: The actual beach is nice.
With such a reputation for expensive hotels, beautiful people, nightlife, and retirees, it is good to know that the actual beach is worth the visit.
With an over 10 mile strip of sand facing the Atlantic there are many actual "beaches" to choose from. From south to north: South Beach, Miami Beach Central, Miami Beach North, the North Shore Open Space Park, Surfside Beach, Bal Harbour Beach, Haulover Beach Park, Sunny Isles beach, and Golden Beach. You can book accommodation based on proximity to any of these areas. From Surfside north you are actually outside of Miami Beach, borders.
Even though this is a "crowded" destination, the beaches almost always have enough space to accommodate. There are umbrellas and chairs to rent and pretty regular patrols along the beach. There are plenty of rubbish bins so please make use of them. There are lifeguard towers along the beach.
As for the Miami Beach itself sand...South Beach is a nice strip of mostly white sand. It is a wide beach with plenty of room. There is a boardwalk from 4th to 21st streets, and a Promenade from 5th to 16th street. People walk, cycle, jog, roller blade and do whatever. There are public restrooms but I didn't use them. Along Ocean drive and Collins Avenue there are all sorts of hotels, restaurants and shops. There is another boardwalk up near the start of Indian Creek Drive called the Oceanfront boardwalk. the beach here is also nice and less crowded and more family oriented with several hotels around and less of the "party". the North Shore Park area up near 79th street is good for the family with grilling, changing rooms, showers, and more shallow areas for the kiddies!
All n' all, Miami beach has something for everyone basically. As you go further north from South Beach's most southern point and get higher in the 30'and 40's (streets) there are many hotel deals to be had. Another good tip is the water temperature is from 70ish up to the mid 80's depending on the time of year! Just shop around and don't skip the beach in Miami Beach!
