If you like religious art this is for you.. May 24, 2013
The main church was built by Francisco Pizarro, a conquistador and one of the founders of Lima. His remains can be found immediately to the right of the entrance in a beautiful mosaic decorated chapel.

The basilica is a museum of religious art as well the place if internment of various prominent families and all of the Lima bishops.

The art is displayed in the 21 chapels located around the edge of the basilica. The archbishops crypt and one of the underground tombs are open to the public. An upper room displays religious treasures as well as portraits of all the Lima bishops from the 16th centuary to the present day.

Entrance at 10soles, or about $4 is very reasonable and non flash photography is permitted.
