Watch out Krispie Kreme! You’ve got some competition from the Apple House in Linden, VA. The Apple House is about 40 miles west of DC. Every time I drive from Luray to Northern Virginia I stop at this fabulous store. The store carries just about anything you could want from a gift shop; apple-butter, handmade soaps, local wines and ciders, post cards, clothes and even those wretched Vera Bradley purses. They also make their own apple cider called Alpenglow which is available all over the place.

All I care about are the doughnuts. As you wait in line to purchase your apple cinnamon doughnuts, you can watch the little doughnut machine drop blobs of dough into the glorious grease. They float down the grease river and land in a pile of sugar and spice. They are divine, especially when warm. The Apple House has gotten better every time I visit. It has probably burned down three times since I’ve been aware of its’ existence each time rebuilding bigger and better. Nowadays there is a volunteer fire department right next door. Cooincidence?

Go there! Eat doughnuts and if you’re worried about your figure, wrap yourself in a Vera Bradley print and no one will notice!
