Buffalo, New York
The Anchor Bar - Where the wings were born. Although every restaurant in Buffalo makes chicken wings!
The Anchor Bar - Scott was excited. We left very very full, although smelling rather wing-y!

When we visited Buffalo, New York we HAD to have some buffalo wings. I mean, afterall it's where they were invented! We picked the Anchor Bar because according to legend, that is where it all began.

The restaurant was cozy with license plates as decorations all over the wall. The wait staff was friendly, but it was a bit crowded. I guess it's a major tourist spot. The wings were good, but nothing spectacular. I had hot and my bf had bbq flavored.

The Anchor is the birthplace of buffalo-style chicken wings. I believe sometime in the 1960's they were invented by the owner's mother. We went to the Anchor in November, on a Thursday, but it was still fairly busy. The restaurant looks like its been added onto multiple times, but that adds to it's hometown-feel. The walls are covered by memorabilia (probably there a long time before it was vogue to do so) and framed photos, clippings, letters, etc., signed by everyone from Richard Simmons to the governor of New York. (go figure about Richard'd think he would stay away from a fattening restaurant!)

We ordered 20 medium-hot wings and a small pepperoni pizza. It was WAY too much food for the two of us, but we had to have the whole experience! The wings were really good, the proper amount of sauce to crispy skin, served with blue cheese (NO ranch! that's a southern thing!) and celery. The pizza was really yummy too...had thick, soft crust and plenty of cheese! Reminded me of Pizza Hut pizza, but less greasy.

The staff was prompt and friendly (for the North) and our food was out in a jiffy. There were everyone dining there from tourists (like us) to locals on lunch break. It seemed to be a still-beloved-by-locals kind of place!
