The American Zinfandel Reviews
The Director's Cut Zinfandel Jul 03, 2010
Zinfandel owes much of it's present existence to the fact that durig prohinition it was grown and vinted illegally in the remote hills and mountain sides of Northern California. If not for Zinfandel's popularity among California winemakers and wine lovers, it would be just another obscure grape grown only in southern Italy.
The grape known as primitivo is the Zinfandel. In Croata it is refered to as crljenak Kastelanski. It is not indigenous to California, but California is considered by most to be the home of this famed vine.
The wine is globally celebrated now by fashion designers, golfers, actors, and many others. Made with fuit grown entirely in the Creek Valley appellation, it includes small amounts of Petite Shirah. Half of the fruit is crashed whole and then the must is fermented in open top fermenters for great color extraction and flavor enhancement. It is then aged in French oak to add essence.
