Residential Hotel...beware travelers Jun 21, 2008

I lived in this building in the early 1990's. This is not a hotel meant for travelers (especially those who value their lives). The residents of this building were lovely people comprised of a fair amount of prostitutes, drug abusers and some very violent drag queens (not to say that drag queens are usually violent...perhaps these ladies were angered by their living arrangements and I cant say I blame them). I remember nights in my "share bath" (10 bux a week cheaper) unit when my neighbors who shared the bathroom were too intoxicated to remember to unlock my door to our bathroom after they used it and then would pass out and not hear my desperate attempts to wake them by knocking on their door. I was leary about using the hall bathrooms because other residents would sometimes smear feces over every surface in those bathrooms....good times. I have to say however that my neighbors at the Abbey were very friendly, on one occasion a business man (cocaine dealer) who lived in the building recongnized me on the Tri-Met bus and handed me a free sample of his product.

I remember a restaurant downstairs of some kind but I never went in there, but for some reason the name Paradise Pizza sounds familiar. It may have been an Indian restaurant when I was there tho...I remember smelling curry in the lobby.
I used to eat at a place around the corner on N.W. 23rd called "Quality Pie" across the street from Good Sam. Hospital. By day it was just your average coffee shop but at 2 am when drag queens were leaving Flossies and going there for coffee and breakfast it was way more interesting.
I lived in the Abbey from Sept. 11, 1991 until July of '92...when were you there?

I also stayed in this place, in the early 90s. All is so true. But there was a pizza place in there, paradise pizza I think. Just to settle an argument I'm having with someone, do you rembember the name? I never dared to eat there knowing what was upstairs.

Well, I'll keep it short. This place is a #@%$&#$ joke!!! I, like so many people was affected by the economy and had to make some quick decisions. For a place to consider itself a hotel it must provide a service (at least ONE). This place will get you your mail a week later if you don't ask. The power goes out regularly (i.e. twice a week at least). Good luck if you have a job that requires you to actually be there. So much for short, I hate this place! The location is nice if you're not ashamed to walk out of the building that you live in. It is the worst building in the area and it smells like your grandfathers work shoes! If you ask for any minor service you will be considered "the problem" and therefore you will not fit in with the tweekers that prefer not speak and stick to themselves. The high standard of living such as clean water, air conditioning and plumbing that doesn't sound like demons with a stomach ache at 5:00am, is too much for people with fewer than 20 teeth to understand. They don't get it, but will find a way to judge you for your ungratefulness. If you have pride, don't go to "THE ABBEY HOTEL"! If you don't have options, just consider that they charge about $600-750 a month... You won't have your own kitchen, shower, AC, TV, or more than one power outlet and not to mention that the place has rodents that want roommates. In Short.....THE ABBEY IS AN ABSOLUTE RIP OFF!!!!!!!!!!!
NO ABBEY HOTEL IN PORTLAND!!!!!!

The Abbey is located at 2235 W. Burnside in Portland Oregon. This building is run down and infested with bugs. The elevator is old and clunky, the walls and ceilings are in horrible condition, some spots holes bigger than your fist. I have seen HUNDREDS of bugs crawling around. The kitchens on each floor are horribly sloppy and the trash cans overflow right next to the ovens and refrigerators! Not all room shave their own bathrooms, so each floor has 2 public bathrooms, some with shower/tubs, others just a toilet. No sinks! When I was there last time, the bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. Waste was overflowing and other things were left behind!

To anyone in Portland OR area or that plan to visit, I reccommend you stay far away from this place. I am planning to write a report and send it to the Health Inspector and suggest it be condemned.
