Jaisalmer, The Golden City Sep 23, 2013
This is the true Rajasthan gem more than any other city there... its sun-toned golden walls and sands are a rare sight and its city-walls, havelis and desert ways transport you into another world... be sure to take a longish camel ride... preferably in a group so that you have someone to talk to ....and preferably one that involves sleeping in the desert, eating local meals cooked by your camel driver on the sand, and stopping in villages en route ... camel drivers tend to take you to touristy pre-organised stops for Rajasthani food and dance .. this is fine if its part of a longer trip in Jaisalmer usually...

Jaisalmer, India Apr 06, 2012
My favorite place to visit in India, make sure to go check out Kuri Village about 30km outside of Jaisalmer where they have camel treks. The best place to stay is inside the city fort where you can get amazing views at night, the taxi drivers at the train station will hassle you to stay at one of their hotels. Inside the fort you can buy great meals with chicken for cheap. I ate at local restaurants, and ate fresh fruit and never got sick although I did wash the fruit with water

Camel Safari Apr 21, 2011
Do an overnight stay in the desert!

We booked with Mr Desert who is the most acclaimed tour company and a very interesting character, though many company's run tours and bartering is common in agreeing a price.

On our trip we took a jeep out to our guide in the dessert. We all had a camel each and rode through the desert for 2 hours before our guide cooked for us on an open fire. He used all fresh, natural ingredients and did the whole meal from scratch.

we then trekked for a further few hours before setting up our evening camp. Our guide gave us all roles in helping with the cooking including making the chapatti and keeping the fire going.

we took time to venture off and get some sunset shots before eating our dinner around the campfire.

we stayed up playing cards and drinking (pre arranged for little cost by Mr Desert) before sleeping under the stars!

In the morning we headed back after breakfast. Be aware the riding of Camels can get very uncomfortable and was the only downside to one of the greatest experiences i had in India.

Even despite the soreness i would do it again.

Enjoy!
