Thames Vacation Guide
Thames, sits at the bottom of the Firth of Thames. It is located on the road that is used by many on their way to the Coramandel Peninsular.
Thames came about during the gold rush with miners flocking to the area by the hundreds. Though mining is no longer conducted in the area, it left an impact which can be seen with a mine being maintained as a museum and many miners cottages dotted around town.
The streets of Thames are lined with old wooden houses and pubs dating from the 19th century, when the gold rush and kauri trade made it one of the biggest towns in NZ.
