My three year assignment here in Bangkok will be coming to an end this August, and I am starting to think about all of the things that need to get done before I pack out! One of the things I realized is that I need to write more about this city that I have lived in for so long! Kat asked me to write about some off the beaten path stuff too, so I'll write some about the bars, restaurants, and shopping that I have come to love in this place. I'll make a quick list here of stuf…

After the Min’s dropped us at the dingy old Yangon airport we sat around waiting for our flight. Cindy managed to lose her departure card which had as momentarily concerned (we didn’t have much cash left for a bribe!) and then when I went to pay the departure tax, somehow Bangkok Air had messed up the manifest and had Cindy's ticket listed as something like Mr. Cindy Fujimoto Recht which caused great consternation (and had me somewhat perplexed). They finally got tha…

So I arrived at the Seoul International Airport first and walked around the terminal from one end to the other. Of course, being a Korean, one must have the luxury brand names at ones fingertips. Frankly, I like the shopping better in NYC (then again, I am biased). I was more fascinated with the toilet seats in a few particular bathrooms, don't ask me why! Then it was back on a plane for jaunt to Bangkok. Unfortunately, I did not arrive until 01:00, so going anywhere into the city with m…

The second day in Thailand I was able to experience a traditional Ban Mai celebration on the opening of my companys office in Bangkok. The Ban Mai is a 'new house blessing'. True to Thai tradition, we selected a luckly floor, 28th (or our local manager did hahaha). Jimmy and I arrived to the office to observe the monks ceremony. Nine monks were seated already chanting. The number of monks must be an odd number with nine being a very auspicious number. A room had been converted for t…

In the space of 24 hours, I have been hanging out with: Germans, Canadians, Brits, Ugandans, Dutch, Israelis, and Spanish. Diverse or what?I'm in Bangkok after the 13hr train journey down from Chiang Mai. I parked myself in my seat, and wondered who was going to sit opposite me for the next 13 hours. A gentleman of at least 6'5 stature appeared, which is unsual in itself. The fact that he was of southeast Asian descent was damned unusual! He sat opposite me,…

This was another memorable and great trip indeed. I had lots of fun and honestly didn't want to go back to Sydney yet when I had to, on February 1st. Met lots of great and fun people, both Thai and Europeans.
I was first in Phuket and once in my hostel in Patong I went straight to the balcony for some people watching and ended up talking for a couple of hours with this Australian girl from Adelaide called Tiffany and then met Esper whom I spent the next day walking to Karon beac…

Today we arrived in Bangkok at 6am. The
train was actually on time. I was surprised as my previous
involvement in travel through the country had always been delayed
before. I had hardly slept at all on the train and so was
particularly grumpy and tired! When arriving at Khao San I just
wanted to get a hotel room and sleep! We found a place with a pool
and left our bags as we were unable to check in until after 10am. So
we had a few hours and decided to get some breakfast while we waite…

After a reasonable sleep on the flight from Melbourne I stumbled out somewhat bedraggled at Bangkok airport, made it through customs and out the other side into the big, noisy, steamy, smelly metropolis that is Bangkok. Don't ask me what I spent the day doing because I think the heat has erased the day's memories but I do remember something about crashing for a few hours in a guesthouse in Silom before catching the overnight train to Chiang Mai at 1800.
That'd have to be the greatest tr…

From bangkok to Pai
By VIP bus 24 seats, bangkok-Cheingmai then by bus or van to Pai. I chose van, 3 hours from here.
Have you ever heard of curving road in Maehongsorn? Ahh,you should take sleeping pills before go there. The road is like an "S" not only one "S" but "SSSSSSSSSS" along the way. Half way was like half day. I tried to open my eyes to look at the view but I didn't sleep for 2 nights so .... i slept (again). Woke up when my head hit my friend's head .... and yeah we're he…

Number 9 is Thai's lucky number since we pronounce as "Gao" which can be a double connotation of "Gao Na" which means "progress" or "moving forward" or "step forward". Whenever Thais pick up any date or number like wedding date, entering new house, ceremony, product launching, etc, no wonder that the date of 9th is in the top list. Thais believe to get good luck we have to do merit for 9 temples in one day at least once a year. This trip I went with mom was a temples trip held by Bangkok Mass…

At first we planned to go back on Sunday but p'ozz said we should have one day to take a rest at home before back to work again and we agreed, so everyone woke up early in the morning to do last minute stuff but me. I woke up late than the others because i couldn't sleep after peed last night. They already had breakfast - it was the first time we had food at Putsa bungalo. (We love Tabtim beach's food, it's great) But here is yummy also na. I had breakfast. If you come to Thailan…
