Thai Metro London Reviews
Sep 11, 2006
The Thai Metro is situated about half way down Charlotte Street and to my mind is really more of a Café than a restaurant. The interior is more functional than decorative but this isn't necessarily to it's detriment, just that it’s a little less 'trendy' looking than it's near neighbours.
The main eating area was pretty small and felt a bit cramped but I later discovered that there was a second room downstairs which presumably is used on busy nights. As it was pretty warm the evening I visited they had opened up the shop front and were utilising a number of pavement tables which managed to give the place a bit more feeling of space than it probably has in the winter months.
The service is friendly and exceptionally speedy with the food arriving within minutes of ordering but this is where it began to fall down somewhat. What they had in swift service they lacked in the actual food they were serving. My tempura was stodgy rather than light and whilst the red curry was flavoursome the tofu I had with it was rather blandly cooked.
Whilst obviously not as expensive as it's near neighbours the price ultimately seemed somewhat expensive compared to the quality of what you received - well it did for this Yorkshireman anyway.
Not the worst place in the world but could be a whole lot better if they just put a little bit more care into the food they served.
