Tha Zin Restaurant Kalaw Reviews
Good food and a warm welcome, almost for free!! Jan 19, 2008
Tha Zin Restaurant is run by the 84 year old owner and his lovely daughter. The daughter is the cook, the father is the host/waiter/entertainer.
Do not expect any luxury, the furniture is simple (read plastic) and except for the family altar and tv, there is no bling at all.
The food is very good, although it could have been a little warmer, but try cooking on a wood fuelled furnace yourself and you'll see it's not that easy. The taste is fantastic and the atmosphere unique. The 84 year old man will tell about his experiences in life and when you ask him he'll show you a card trick, which is not really a trick but a lesson. I'm not going to give it away, you'll have to ask him yourself.
The price of the food is a laugh, actually. We paid 7200 Kyats (6 US Dollars or 4 Euros) for two great bowls of soup, two main courses and two bottles of water. The tea and roasted peanuts were on the house.
If you want to do the old man a favour, bring him some Swiss cheese or Cadbury's chocolate (not available in Myanmar).
