Textile Museum Kuching Reviews
Fascinating traditional textiles Nov 28, 2009
Located opposite the old General Post office in a three storey- building,a mix of colonial architecture and English Renaissance,it displays raw materials, weaving with mannequins of weavers at work and finally amazing costumes.
The eyelights are first the famous Iban pua kumbu,a traditional tribal textile of great value, woven in longhouses of Borneo, with unique symbolic designs. They are known as woven dreams.
Also internationally known is the QMalay kain songket,a hand-woven piece of brocarded fabric in cotton or silk patterned with gold or silver threads.
Unfortunately pics are not allowed. Those interested in traditional textiles(Iban pua kumbu) should not miss in Kuching the Tun Jugah Museum located in the Tun Jugah Tower.
